Light weight GT-R?

They're calling this project the 'Light weight GT-R' project but to be honest, in my opinion, it's just another GTT with an RB26 and made to look like a GT-R.

The owner wanted an R34 that would be as much fun to drive or drift as a 350Z or Silvia, but yet could still make good down force and horse power and weigh-in a good 500 pounds lighter.

A Red ER34 was purchased from Kaizo Industries, fitted with all GTR body panels to the body prior to shipping. A stock ER34 has steel fenders and hood but GTR fenders and hood are made of aluminum (Carbon if it's the V-Spec II) and the rear quarters are constructed of a lighter weight steel, which dramatically reduces weight.

As with all Kaizo kit cars, an engine and transmission were needed to be purchased so a low mileage R34 RB26 and GTT 5 speed transmission were chucked in. The oil pan of the RB26 had to be fabricated and modified to fit and the front differential removed. Also installed were a pair of Tomei Cams, Oil Pump, Nismo Gaskets, Apex Turbos, Top Mount Oil Filtration, HKS Oil Cooler, AB88 Intercooler, Apex Air Cleaner Intakes, Custom SS Radiator, Power FC, a short throw shifter and ACT clutch.

Also fitted were GTR Brembo Brakes,Volk LMGT4’s in 18X9.5, Rear V-Spec CF Diffuser, Adjustable Rear, Upper Control Arms, Nismo Two Way LSD, Full R34 GTR V-Spec II Black Interior, Lowering Springs and the GTR Steering Rack.

This car should put at least 500WHP.

Here is a clip of it on the Streets of Willow burning some rubber.

with the rb26, the amt of work that goes into it plus the 500 whp, don't you think your statement is slighting the effort that goes into the car?

Mohd. Ekhsan Othman,
They're great looking wheels, aren,t they. =)

charcoalx,
You may be right... but the fact of the matter is, it still says ER34 on the VIN plate. =P Plus I hate GT-R wannabe's. If it's a GTT, just be proud of being a GTT. Don't go branding yourself a GT-R, cause if you do, you're no better than any of the Protons out there branding themselves as Mitsubishi, no?

think of it both ways....
some people are not as rich as you hence a GT-T to them makes them one step closer to a gt-r. So give them a break, not everyone is born in a silver spoon. look at the amount u have spend on your car. No offence but while u r still in school, u can manage to buy a gtr+ all the beautiful mods. So cut them the slack as they really need it more than u.

James,
That is true. I am fortunate to have parents who are successful in life and allow me to enjoy certain luxuries in life, such as the GT-R. Mind you all the money I've spent on the car so far comes out of my own pocket, not my parents as they do not encourage modifications. I worked and worked hard for it.

Unfortunately, I do not share your view on giving these people a break. The ones who put up a facade of having something more than they can actually afford, because to me, isn't it like bragging without the entitlement to boast about something? Much like buying fake designer goods. Wearing fake jewelry. It's like telling everyone they're something they are not and when you find out the truth, wouldn't you frown upon them because they weren't honest with you? Showing something that isn't really there?

But hey, that's just an opinion of mine...

I am not stopping anyone from it. If it makes them happy, by all means, do it. =)

As for the bloke in the states who built that Red "Lightweight GT-R", I am pretty sure he is financially more than capable of owning a GT-R. He just chose to use a GTT. I just don't agree with him calling it a GT-R when it isn't. It's just my opinion. He may not agree, but at the end of the day, it's still his car and he can do whatever he wants to and I can't do anything about it right?. =)

Agree with not liking fake stuff and pretending to be something you are not.

But pretty sure this owner is not a wannabe, as the definition of wannabe is 'want to but can't be'.

In this particular case, I look at it as innovation and the owner choosing to have the things he likes about the GTR (rb26, widebody panels) while doing away with the stuff he doesn't like (heavy 4wd system).

Anyway, silly argument. Keep the great posts coming. :)
