Spot the Difference

Joshie has requested a visual comparison between the BNR34 GT-R and the ER34 GTT models to help tell them apart.

I must say, it is difficult to tell ER34's that have been subjected to the BNR34 appearance conversions these days. The quality of the work done has greatly improved and some has even had me fooled.

For a comparison between a stock BNR34 and ER34, check out BNR34・ER34徹底比較.

Not mentioned in that site are a couple more things...

To be honest, it is not as easy to tell them apart anymore.
One of the most obvious distinction between the two would be the sunroof. The BNR34 never came with the optional sunroof unlike the ER34. So if you see a GT-R that has a sunroof, it's most likely an ER34 in disguise.

Another point of difference is the reverse/fog light. BNR34's have a dedicated red fog light on the right side of the rear license plate area and a clear reverse light on it's left. The ER34's on the other hand, have two clear reverse lights.

However, the N1 BNR34's also have two clear reverse lights but I doubt there are any in Malaysia as only around 50 were made of which 12 were used by Nismo in the Super Taikyu. Such example would be the base car for the Mine's BNR34 demo car, which is an N1 BNR34.
Also, many BNR34 owners choose to swap out their fog light for a clear one as they prefer the more balanced look instead. So it's hard to tell sometimes.

I don't know if there are any other differences you can tell through appearance.
BNR34's have Brembo's but these can be converted on the ER34's. BNR34's have the MFD in the center console but some hardcore conversions have done it in the ER34's too. BNR34's have the RB26DETT, but of course, these can be chucked in to an ER34. The one sure thing is the VIN plate, but then again, who's really going to pop the hood for a stranger. *laughs*

If anyone would like to add on, please feel free to.
=)

From the exterior quiet hard to differeciate...

Most of the GTT cum GTR in malaysia only change the exterior... They mormally leave the engine and interior alone...

When you going to do a write out on the differences of the NUR... Waiting for that...

Hey. I find that the easiest way to tell a gtt in disguise is the rear fenders. If you look at a gtr and gtt together you'll notice that the rear a are obviously narrower but the gtt's slope down more as they go towards the front of the car. Iv seen many a gt-r lookalikes and some very convincing ones but the giveaway has always been the rear fenders. Hope that helps.
Your blog is fantastic btw!

Hi Liam,
Yup, you're very right. Pictures in the BNR34・ER34徹底比較 site have a picture comparison too. Unfortunately, the GT-R look-alike kit's out there now come with the rear fenders too as a complete package, so it's really, really difficult to tell. =)

I'd say to differentiate both from exterior wise, the wheel's offset.

er34s will need wheel spacers if GTR fenders were fitted onto it as GTR has wider fender all round.

so, er34s will have wider tyres for the rears to compensate the wider fender. They'll need two different set of offset for the fronts and rears just to ensure the wheels are 'flushed' nicely.

my 2 cents.. :)
