Tomb Raider, rebooted...
When it comes to video games with a female protagonists, one of the most memorable icons would be none other than Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. Since her digital birth in 1996, the series developed into a major lucrative franchise, and Lara has become a major icon of the virtual gaming industry, giving her the title "Most Successful Human Virtual Game Heroine" in the Walk of Game and the Guinness Book of World Records.
From comic books, novels, to animated shorts, she has had two movies made - Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life - starring none other than actress, Angelina Jolie.
She has come a long way since her first digital self...
Next year, Tomb Raider will get a reboot from Crystal Dynamics and one of my most favourite game companies, Square Enix. They announced recently that there will be a world-wide release date of 5 March 2013.
The story I think prequels the franchise, 'exploring the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a frightened young woman to a hardened survivor.'
Here's a clip entitled "Crossroads", a debut gameplay trailer. Thoroughly impressed!
I must say I am really looking forward to seeing this released. It brings back some memories of my first gen PlayStation days.
You can also check out their official website.
